Twitter Summary

1.What surprised you about your narrative? How did you adapt?
My control Amanda Wrights twitter account. The identity of Amanda Wright is a commercial espionage. The company she works for and Johns company are business rivals. Her boss asked her to obtain commercial secrets from John. She does it. However, she falls in love with John. She gets the secret, but she does not give all these information to her boss. She tells the truth to John. And then, she disappears. The emotion of Amanda is complex. She has to work for her boss. She loves John. She is always in a moral dilemma. It is interesting to use twitter to write this narrative.

2.Identify the points you are most proud of.
First, our story is splendid. Each character has own personality.
Second, all of us update our twitter accounts everyday.
Third, we used a lot of pictures, infographic, videos, vlog and so on.

3.What form of media was most useful?
Infographic. Because it is easy to understand. And a good infographic can convey a lot of information.

4.What form of media did you enjoy the most?
Vlog. I really enjoyed the process that our group made our own vlog. It was fun. Our group members divided the work clearly. All of us finished perfectly.

5.Least useful?
I think blog is least useful. For me, I did not have the habit to check my blog and read othersblogs everyday. I prefer to watch vlog.

6.Least enjoyable?
Each Tweet can only type 140 letter. I had to use short sentences.

7.Identify the points you would change and what you would do differently
We used a lot of pictures, infographic and other forms of media. But most of them are from Internet. I prefer to create by ourselves.

History of General Anesthesia
General anaesthesia (or general anesthesia) is a medically induced coma and loss of protective reflexes resulting from the administration of one or more general anaesthetic agents. The history of general anesthesia can trace back to thousands of years ago.
The first attempt was probably herbal remedies administered in prehistory. Alcohol is the oldest known sedative. It was used in ancient Mesopotamia for the first time. [1] Sumerians cultivated and harvested the opium poppy in lower Mesopotamia as early as 3400 B.C. Some Sumerian tablets of this era mentioned a mysterious thing which believed by some authors to refer to opium. Opium and cannabis sativa can paralyse the nerves so that they can cause analgesic effects. In ancient China, there was a legendary internist and surgeon named Bian Que. He used a toxic drink which rendered patients unconscious for three days. During the time, he performed a gastrostomy upon them. [2] Another famous Chinese surgeon was Hua Tuo. In the 2nd century AD, he invented “mafeisan” which mixing wine with a mixture of herbal extracts. [3]
Middle ages and renaissance can be seen as the enlightening stage of general anesthesia. In 1000, Abu al-Qasim al-Zahrawi (936-1013) published the first illustrated work on surgery. What’s more, he wrote about the use of general anesthesia for surgery in this book. In 1020, Ibn Sīnā (980-1037) described an anesthesia tool called “soporific sponge”. The sponge was imbued with aromatics and narcotics. And the sponge could be heated and the vapors inhaled with anesthetic effect. During surgical operations, it would be placed under patients’ nose to make the patients in a trance. Among different narcotics, mandala was best known. The anesthetic effect of mandala has been found in 1st century. However, at that time, people regarded mandala as something evil. Mandala went unheeded.
18th century was an important period to the development of general anesthesia. The study of general anesthesia was getting more scientific. Joseph Priestley (1733-1804) discovered nitrous oxide, nitric oxide and hydrogen chloride. Thomas Beddoes and Humphry Davy (1778-1829) did a deep research on the basic of Joseph Priestley. In the process of research, Davy discovered the anesthetic properties of nitrous oxide and documented the analgesic effects, as well as its potential benefits in relieving pain during surgery for the first time. He coined the term “laughing gas” for nitrous oxide. But he didn’t announce this discovery to public. [4] Then in 19th century, Henry Hill Hickman (1800-1830) experimented with the use of carbon dioxide as an anesthetic. Unfortunately, he was unappreciated when he was alive. But now, he is recognized as one of the fathers of anesthesia. Until 1844, American chemist Gardner Quincy Colton studied “laughing gas” and held a public demonstration of nitrous oxide in Hartford, Connecticut. One of the participants, Horace Wells paid attention to “laughing gas”. He put forward his idea that “laughing gas” may have anesthetic effect. After that, Wells underwent a painless dental extraction while under the influence of nitrous oxide administered by Colton. William T.G. Morton, another New England dentist, was a former student and then-current business partner of Wells. He took a hint from chemist Jackson that ethyl oxide can anaesthetize patients effectively. In October 1846, Morton became the first to publicly demonstrate the use of diethyl ether as a general anesthetic.[5] This is the beginning of modern history of general anesthesia. For many years, Morton was credited as being the pioneer of general anesthesia.
The 20th century saw the transformation of the practices of tracheotomy. Until 1913, oral and maxillofacial surgery was performed by mask inhalation anesthesia, topical application of local anesthetics to the mucosa, rectal anesthesia, or intravenous anesthesia. Also in 1913, Henry H. Janeway (1873–1921) published results he had achieved using a laryngoscope he had recently developed.[6] The first intravenous anesthetic was synthesized in 1934. It was first used in humans on 8 March. After World War I, further advances were made in the field of intratracheal anesthesia. They safety and efficacy of general anaesthesia was improved by the routine use of tracheal intubation and other advanced air way management techniques. The concept of using a fiberoptic endoscope for tracheal intubation was introduced by Peter Murphy, an English anesthetist, in 1967. By the mid-1980s, the flexible fiberoptic bronchoscope had become an indispensable instrument within the pulmonology and anesthesia communities.[7] Standardized training programs for anaesthesiologists and nurse anaesthetists emerged during this period.
The "digital revolution" of the 21st century has brought newer technology to the art and science of tracheal intubation. Xenon has been used as a general anesthetic. Although it is expensive, anesthesia machines that can deliver xenon are about to appear on the European market.[8]
Numerous scholars left precious legacy of general anesthesia to us. General anesthesia plays an important role in medicine. It is our duty to develop it and continue to promote the progress of medicine.

Response to "Is Twitter a 2 way Street?"

1.Response to "Is Twitter a 2 way street?"

Twitter is a well-known social platform, just like Facebook and Weico. There are millions of users from all over the world on Twitter. There is no doubt that Twitter provides more chances for users to make new friends and develop contacts. I’d like to use my own experience as an example. At first, I just followed people which I know them in daily life, such as my classmates and my professors. They also follow me. When I saw something interesting, I will @ them. Or when I tweet something about them, I will @ them. As for some personal message, I will send a direct message. As time goes by, I tweet more information about myself. I also show my interests. Then my follower became more and more. When I found someone I really want to make friends with, I will also follow them. Since we have something in common, it is easy to have an interaction. In this way, Twitter can be seen as a two-way street.
However, I also follow some people who have hundreds of followers. They can be pop stars, famous people or web celebrity. Of course, they don’t follow me. We never have interaction. There is no reciprocity between these people and I. I follow them, just because I want to get information about them. Actually, they are not close to my daily life. So, in my opinion, this kind of reciprocity is unimportant.
For most, twitter is a two-way street.
