Entry #6: Reflection
There are some
differences between the infographic and the video lecture. I used timekeeper to
record the time that I spent on reading the infographic and watch the video
lecture. The results are, I spent five minutes on reading the infographic and twenty
minutes on watching the video. Every time I wrote down what I have learned.
Compared with two notes, I found I got almost the same. The conclusion is,
infographic can transmit information more quickly. It leaves out all secondary
information, but remains the most important ideas. From the infographic, we can
totally know the tips of how to make a great story. However, there is no
example, no comparison, no participation. In addition, the infographic presents
all ideas in several short sentences. It’s compact. But I think someone may not
understand clearly, just like me. On the contrary, I can see some movie clips
in the video lecture which can help the audience learn easily. And the speaker
is quite humorous. I enjoyed his speech and had a lot of fun. He always uses
his own experiences to explain these ideas. With the help of movie clips and
some jokes, the time really files. For this topic, I think I prefer to watch
the video lecture than read the infographic.

1) Outline the infographic essay
1) Outline the infographic essay
paragraph-by-paragraph as if it were a traditional, text-written essay
Doing business is not a easy thing. Businessmen need to satisfy some essential requirements to grow their business. In this essay, the author regards business as a big tree. The trunk is website. Branches are the crown of the tree.
2) Provide the Rhetorical Situation of this essay
- purpose: to give some ideas to businessmen and help them grow their business
- audience: businessmen and people who want to have his own business
- stance: objective
- genre: Analysis paper
- media/design: picture,text
3) While you are only outlining the essay--not writing it word-for-word--you can still get a feeling for what this essay would look like. How is the infographic different from the traditional essay you outlined?
Infographic combines information and graphic. It conveys infomation not depend on text but on pictures and images. In another word, infographic uses the power of image. In this way, people can have a direct feeling and understand the main idea quickly. As for traditional essay, it always has clear structure and good organization. However, the form of traditional essay is single. The audience may be bored with long text.
4) Strengths and weaknesses of the infographic: what does the infographic do better than the essay? What does the essay do better than the infographic?
Infographic can prensent a complex idea in a simple way. It do benefits on data visualization. Infographic can be in many kinds of forms. And people will be more interested in reading infographics than traditional essays. But we can not repudiate traditional essays. Sometimes infographic is difficult for some people to read. It may cause misunderstandings. However, everyone can read texts. What's more, traditional essay can explain things deeper than infographic.
5) How does this qualify as an essay and not a series of pictures?
Infographic also has introduction, body and conclusion just like an essay. I think the advantages of infographic outweigh its disadvantages.
Entry 4: Respond to "Searchin'" by Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson
Compared with the similar one that Dr.Jen showed us in class, the doc. form is quite boring. When I opened it, I was unwilling to read. Because there were too many words. However,if the author use video to present his ideas,it will be interesting. And I will be glad to know more. So I think the revolution of Web 1.0 to Web.2.0 is necessary and reasonable. Although it didn't change the content we read,it can become more attractive. The disadvantage is people can not put their comments on it.
DJGuestlove uses picture, words and infographic. In my opinion, infographic is a good format. It use the power of picture to make date become interesting. When I read newspaper, I usually look the pictures first. If the picture interests me, I will read the article. Infographic combines information and picture. In this way, the audience can understand complex data in a easy way.
In a word, I really admire the revolution of Web 1.0 to Web 2.0,Web 2.0 to Social 3.0. In my eye, these are all human intelligence. And human intelligence is inexhaustible.

Response to "Roper DataMinerRomance".
When I opened the website and looked through the pages, I thought it was cool. The pages are bright in colour. The author analysed data in a very different but interesting way. The main content talks about the data miner's guide to romance. They divided people into four groups, gay males, straight males, lesbians and straight females. Then the author used data to teach people how to find their matches. There are three steps.I thought some tips can be effective.

The relationship between Punk and Web 2.0
The rise of punk
rock seems came suddenly. However, punk was born much earlier. In the 1960s and
1970s, American was in an era of energy crisis, “stagflation,” and Third World insurgency. The popular of punk rock can be
seen as a movement, a music movement. So did Web 2.0. The old internet system
has been breakdown. There should be a movement. Both of them developed quickly.
No one can infer their trend. Punk rock was influenced by the political
situation. On the other side, punk scrambled the distinctions between high and
low culture even more severely than bebop jazz. It influences other fields,
such as art and photography. People act on the movement of punk rock, but they
can not control it. It is similar with Web 2.0. They do combine different
fields together.

Response of “Web 2.0 to Social 3.0: The Next Big Thing”
Response of “Web 2.0 to Social 3.0: The
Next Big Thing”
From the article, I found the keyword of
Social 3.0 is “synchronously collaborate”. Toyota and Google made a good example. The
site enables individuals to come together to synchronously collaborate on
designing a car. It is not just simply provided information. It is not support
asynchronous collaboration. This article also provides the definition of Social
3.0. Social 3.0 is not only a big break based on Web 1.0 and Web 2.0, but also
a great innovation.
